Dnister – The Irreversible Flow of Life

Synopsis
Far in the Carpathians mountains, no signs of human life, only nature. A very fast stream tries to find a way to become larger. Through time, the flow gets its direction and we recognize river Dniester. Along the way, water meets people, influences their traditions, culture, temperament and occupations. However, man tries to control Dniester, to transform river’s speed into energy, to manage the water’s volume, take as much fish as he can carry away. Sometimes we feel, that every generation thinks life by Dniester was better in the past. Man tries to recover the river from his childhood, but some decisions remain irreversible.
Biography
Iurie Tocmas (1993) is a Moldovan filmmaker, editor and journalist. He holds a BA in Journalism and MA in Media Communications from the HSE University (National Research University Higher School of Economics) in Moscow, Russia and has studied Media Management at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2018 after finalising his studies he returned to his home country Moldova where he works as an editor of feature films, documentaries and promotional videos. Since 2018 Iurie is also working on his own documentary projects on social and environmental topics. Dniester – The Irreversible Flow of Life is his debut documentary film as a director.
